FAQs

Different types of materials can be used, depending on the purpose of printing. Most of the time this information is mentioned in the printers’ instruction guide. However, if no specific guidance is given, a few of the commonly used card materials like PVC, composite PVC, composite PET, and composite ABS are safe for use. Usually, printing quality depends upon the printer make and model, however, the final print could also be affected if low-quality printing material is used.
A Smart Card Printer follows a very simple procedure to print on a given card. Unlike ordinary paper printing, card printing primarily employs a heat-based principle. As the card is inserted, it is guided parallel to a colour ribbon and then past the thermal heat section. Here, depending upon the print design and colour, the printer can retransfer a thin film or directly print on the card.
Direct Printing is the process by which the printer directly prints the required design from the ribbon. It could be instructed to carry out monochrome or colour printing. Retransfer Printing, on the other hand, involves the print image getting transferred onto a thin film which is then embedded onto a given card with the aid of a gum roller. Both Direct and Retransfer Printing are thermally driven.
